Le taxi est un espace semi public en mouvement, moyen de circulation et de communication de la ville et de la vie quotidienne. Des gens issus de différentes conditions sociales et de parcours s’y croisent. Entre le 9 et le 12 mars le “taxi 190 dfk77″ ne sera pas comme les autres, il jouera deux rôles en devenant provisoirement un espace d’exposition et transportant des voyageurs. Un espace où l’art est en contact direct avec l’extérieur et place les gens à l’intérieur de l’oeuvre, et les oeuvres dans la ville, ses bruits, ses images…
Les artistes qui participent, soit de passage ou vivant à paris depuis plusieurs années, voyagent beaucoup, et le taxi représente cet itinerance cosmopolite, très similaire à l’art.
The taxi is a semi public space in movement, a means of traveling and communicating in the city and in daily life. People from all walks of life and of different social backgrounds meet here. On March 9 to 12, “taxi 190 dfk 77″ will not be just another taxi; it will play two roles in being temporarily an exhibition space while transporting passengers. A space where art comes in direct contact with the exterieur world and places people promptly within a work, the work within the city, the noise, the images…The participating artists, some visiting, others living in Paris for many years now, travel a lot and the taxi represents this cosmopolitan ambulation, very much like art.

How did you choose the artists and their works were chosen

Il y a des artistes dont je connaissais déjà les oeuvres auparavant et quelques-uns pour lesquels j’ai été attirée par leurs oeuvres que j’ai rencontré au cours de mes recherches. C’est un choix en fonction des approches différentes développées par ces artistes par rapport au projet.
There are artists whose work I was familiar with before and those for whom I was attracted to the work in the course of my research. It is a choice in relation to the different approaches developed by these artists regarding the project.

The difference between the soundwork of a visual artist and that of a musician?

On entend usuellement les oeuvres sonores des plasticiens seulement dans les lieux consacrés à l’art comme les galeries, les centres d’art, où celles-ci y sont un peu enfermées. Resituer les oeuvres sonores des plasticiens et musiciens dans une exposition se tenant dans un taxi permet d’instaurer un dialogue entre eux, aussi réduire la distance entre l’oeuvre et le spectateur, entre l’oeuvre et le monde extérieur, la vie.
We often hear works using sound by visual artists only in spaces consecrated to art such as galleries, art centers, or places often a bit restricted. To restitute soundworks by visual artists and musicians in an exhibition happening in a taxi creates a dialogue between them, as well as reduces the distance between the work and the spectator, the work and the exterieur world, life itself.

Il y a plusieurs économies qui se croisent, celle de l’art remise en contact avec la vie citadine, en rapport avec le travail du taxi. On ne visite pas seulement une exposition gratuitement (durant les périodes de stationnement du taxi), on peut même réellement aller d’un point á un autre dans Paris. En même temps que le dispositif permet la présentation des oeuvres dans de trés bonnes conditions, il permettra á beaucoup de gens de les découvrir-spécialistes, amateurs, et utilisateurs du taxi, malgré leurs préférences culturelles.
There are many economies interrelating, that of art in contact with city life and in relation with the taxi economy. We not only have the chance to visit an exhibition for free (during the period that the taxi will be stationed), we can actually go from one point to another in Paris. At the same time the framework permits the presentation of the works in appropriate conditions, it allows a number of people to discover them-specialists, novices, and clients of the taxi, inspite of their cultural persuasions.
